Ambassador Profile: Robbie Henshaw
Position: Outside Centre
Teams: Leinster and Ireland
Caps for Ireland: 37
Robbie has played for Ireland at various age levels, first pulling on the senior Ireland Jersey in 2013. Since the retirement of Brian O’Driscoll, Henshaw has risen to prominence in the outside centre position. Following his performance in the 2015 Six Nations, Robbie was selected to be part of the Rugby World Cup squad in the same year. With him named in the training squad for this year’s World Cup – hopefully we’ll see Robbie in Japan!
He also took part in his first British and Irish Lions Tour in 2017.
Henshaw is part of a small group that have been part of a senior international squad as a teenager, making his debut for Ireland at 19.
Like most players, Robbie can’t get enough of the buzz of pulling on the green shirt. While pretty much his whole life has been rugby, and he has since played in tours and the Rugby world cup, he still says his proudest moment was getting his first international cap and walking out onto the field in the Ireland jersey.
Forget injury, losing matches or making mistakes on the pitch, Robbie says is biggest fear is spotting a big spider in his room. Surely some of the guys he has played against are more terrifying than that?
Rugby World Cup
Robbie says that one of his biggest career disappointments was Ireland’s loss to Argentina at the 2015 World Cup. According to Henshaw, the history of Argentina knocking Ireland out both in 2007 and 2015, sets them up as Ireland’s biggest rivals this year!
