International Women's Day ZAINAB ALEMA

ZAINAB ALEMA

Game Changer both on and off the pitch.

Zainab Alema – rugby player, nurse and mother of three, she has spent her life breaking down barriers both on and off the pitch.
Growing up in London, Zainab didn’t pick up a ball until she was a teenager, but the game has gone on to shape who she is as a person
today.

ZAINAB ALEMA

We head down to Richmond Women’s RFC to speak with Zainab Alema about her path
in rugby.

Zainab's goal is clear, to one day go on and become the first black female Muslim to play professional rugby for England, and on her
journey hopes to inspire greater accessibility and representation across the sport for everyone.

“The moment I said to myself I am Zainab, I am a rugby player, I’m a
Muslim woman, this is me, everything just fell into place.”

Zainab Alema talks to us about her rugby journey in the second of our mini-films celebrating the women who are changing the game.
