RBS 6 Nations Round Up – Week 4

Scotland 18 – Wales 28 A record fifth consecutive away win for Wales kept their tournament dreams alive with a 28-18 win against Scotland. The match was a scrappy game dominated by kicking, as shown in the world record for 18 attempted penalties. Both kickers kept the scoreboard ticking over for their team, with Halfpenny notching 23 of the overall 28 points himself. Greig Laidlaw maintained his fantastic kicking form with 6 penalties. He ensured his side were still in the game through levelling or bringing the running score to... Read More

RBS 6 Nations Round Up – Week 3

Italy 9 – Wales 28 The first 60 minutes of the Wales V Italy match demonstrated a welsh team willing to grind the opposing side down. They scrummaged well and finished opportunities with efficiency. Wales’s second try was the clincher, leading to a comfortable win in Rome? However the final 20 minutes showed a rather lack luster performance in what was an overall scrappy quarter final. Wales became complacent with very little drive or passion to convert opportunities into points. Conditions were reminiscent of those seen in the Ireland V England match... Read More

RBS 6 Nations Round Up – Week 2

Scotland 34 – Italy 10 Scotland’s performance this weekend was something to behold. The side showed a sincere development on their performance last week. They got the fundamentals right, showing competitiveness in the contact straight from the off. In pushing Italy onto to the back foot it put the opposition under immense pressure, forcing errors and creating penalties. Laidlaw converted these opportunities and kept the scoreboard ticking over early within the match. A succession of four tries from Visser, Scott, Hogg and Lamont secured the Scottish victory (this being the... Read More

Geoff Parling writes a column for The Metro during the RBS 6 Nations in association with Canterbury

DECENT START BUT WE CAN GET BETTER A really positive start but plenty to work on. That was the message that came out in the review of the Scotland game, and it pretty much echoed the feeling in the changing room afterwards. One of the main plus points was the attacking intent shown across the team which got us 38 points. At times however, this also led to us being a bit ‘loose’ and trying to push that final pass, when we should have gone through the phases and waited... Read More

RBS 6 Nations Round Up – Opening Weekend

The Six Nations Opening Weekend was one of debuts, rivalries, old flames and underdogs. Arguably the best opening weekend to date. It was a brilliant start for Ireland who showed a sincere appetite from the off. They dominated the first half, constantly on the front foot pushing for points and driving things home. In comparison Wales were distinctly lacking lustre; a shadow of themselves from 12 months ago. Wales gave away too many turnovers, conceded vital penalties and missed numerous tackles. Brian o Driscoll, who was controversially overlooked for the... Read More
