Back in November we ran a competition for one lucky grassroots rugby team to spend an exclusive evening with their England Rugby Heroes at the team training camp, Pennyhill Park by telling us why they should win.
That lucky team was Hitchin Hedgehogs RFC who won as a result of their competition entry from member Andy Lockley;
“A plumber, telephone engineer, gas man, bouncer, vet, solicitor, writer, Para, decorator, policeman and a pub landlord. None of the Hitchin Hedgehog RFC lads will ever play for England, but we’d love an opportunity to pull on an England jersey alongside those who will!”
So on Monday 13th November twenty members of the grassroots club were picked up from their clubhouse by an executive coach and driven to Pennyhill Park to meet their Heroes and have a chat whilst enjoying a pub inspired buffet dinner. Players included Thomas Waldrom, Geoff Parling, James Haskell, Brad Barritt, Joe Marler, Ben Youngs and David Wilson.
There was laughter, there was banter and of course there was singing. The Hedgehogs had an unforgettable evening and the England boys really enjoyed the chance to have a couple of hours out of thier busy training schedule to reminice on their own grassroots.
One of the things included in the prize was a ‘highlights memento video’ and here it is;
That same day saw the sneak peek of the Limited Edition ‘1871’ Collection by Canterbury where earlier in the day the England players had taken part in a heritage inspired photoshoot complete with props, the Hedgehogs also got a chance to play around with these props and have their picture taken with the players in the same style, they had lots of fun and here are the photos:
